How many labdhi
In Jainism, labdhi refers to special superhuman powers or attainments that can be acquired through intense spiritual practices, penance, or deep meditation. According to Jain texts, there are generally eight main labdhis (ashta labdhi), also known as the "eight attainments." These are:
- Aṇimā Labdhi – Ability to become as small as an atom.
- Mahimā Labdhi – Ability to become infinitely large.
- Garimā Labdhi – Ability to become infinitely heavy.
- Laghimā Labdhi – Ability to become extremely light.
- Prāpti Labdhi – Ability to reach anywhere, even distant places.
- Prākāmya Labdhi – Ability to obtain anything desired.
- Īśitva Labdhi – Supreme lordship or control over creation.
- Vaśitva Labdhi – Power to subjugate all.
These labdhis are considered by Jain philosophy as by-products of spiritual progress, but they are not the ultimate goal. Jainism teaches that one should remain detached from such powers and focus on liberation (moksha).
