Is Rishabh Dev and Shivji the same ?
In Jainism, Rishabh Dev (also known as Lord Rishabhanatha) is recognized as the first Tirthankara of the present time cycle (Avasarpini). He is revered as a spiritual teacher who established the Jain sangha (community) and taught the principles of non-violence (ahimsa), truth (satya), and other fundamental Jain values.
Shivji, or Lord Shiva, is a principal deity in Hinduism and is not considered a Tirthankara or a figure in Jain cosmology.
Although some folk traditions or later interpretations may try to equate or connect Rishabh Dev with Shiva, especially due to similarities in iconography or regional traditions, Jain scriptures and philosophy clearly maintain that they are distinct entities. Rishabh Dev is a Tirthankara in Jainism, while Shiva is a deity in Hinduism.
Therefore, according to Jain teachings, Rishabh Dev and Shivji are not the same.
