How to laghu Shanti tap what is the fast we observe

    one year ago 197

In Jainism, "Laghu Shanti Tap" is a form of penance (tap) observed for seeking peace, atonement, or spiritual upliftment. Let me explain its meaning and the way it is commonly observed:

    What is Laghu Shanti Tap?

    • Laghu means "small" or "minor."
    • Shanti means "peace."
    • Tap means "austerity" or "penance."

Laghu Shanti Tap is a relatively simple and short penance performed to attain inner peace and remove accumulated karmas.

How Is Laghu Shanti Tap Observed?

The exact procedure may vary by tradition and sect, but usually, it involves the following:
    1. Fasting (Upvas or Ayambil):

    - Upvas: Complete fast for one day (no food, only boiled water during daylight). - Ayambil: Eating only once in a day, plain food without any taste enhancers, oil, salt, milk, curd, fruits, or sweets. - The observer chooses either Upvas or Ayambil for one or more days, as per their capability and vow.

    1. Samayik:

    - Performing Samayik (meditation and equanimity) for a set period (usually 48 minutes), focusing on non-violence and detachment.

    1. Pratikraman:

    - Doing Pratikraman (reflection and repentance of past wrongdoings) is often included.

    1. Recitation and Prayers:

    - Chanting of Jain prayers and mantras, such as the Navkar Mantra, and reading scriptures. - Some may recite specific Shanti Path or Shanti Paath Sutras.

    1. Charity and Forgiveness:

    - Practicing charity (daan) and seeking/forgiving others as a part of spiritual cleansing.

    Purpose

    • To seek forgiveness, mental peace, and spiritual purification.
    • To reduce passions (kashayas) and karmic bondage.

    Example Laghu Shanti Tap Routine

    1. Early morning: Take a vow (niyama) for the Tap.
    2. Perform Samayik.
    3. Observe Upvas or Ayambil.
    4. Recite prayers and do Pratikraman.
    5. Conclude with prayers for peace and well-being.

Note: If you are observing this Tap for the first time, it is advisable to consult a Jain monk (Sadhu/Sadhvi) or a learned elder for guidance, as practices may differ among Jain sects (Svetambara, Digambara, etc.).

--- In summary: Laghu Shanti Tap is a short penance involving fasting (Upvas or Ayambil), meditation, repentance, prayer, and charity, all aimed at attaining spiritual peace and reducing karmic bonds.
