    roudra dhyan and artra dhyan

    2 weeks ago 4

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, Ārta Dhyān and Raudra Dhyān are two of the four kinds of meditation, and both are considered inauspicious because they disturb the soul and increase bondage of karma.

    Explanation

    1) Ārta Dhyān
This is meditation caused by sorrow, pain, fear, loss, or attachment. A person becomes absorbed in worry such as:
    • “Why am I suffering?”
    • “How can I get this back?”
    • “How can I avoid this pain?”

    It has four main forms:

    • Thinking about unwanted pain
    • Thinking about loss of desired things
    • Constant worry about future suffering
    • Strong attachment to getting pleasures again

    2) Raudra Dhyān
This is cruel, violent, or angry meditation. A person becomes absorbed in:

    • anger
    • revenge
    • harming others
    • greed and harsh thoughts
    • delight in cruelty or conflict

It also has four main forms:

    • Thinking of violence
    • Planning harm
    • Supporting harmful actions
    • Intense attachment to anger, deceit, greed, or ego

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jainism, both of these dhyāns keep the mind attached to the world and strengthen karma bondage. They do not lead to peace, purity, or liberation.

The goal of Jain meditation is to move away from:

    • pain-driven thinking
    • anger-driven thinking

    and toward:

    • Dharma Dhyān
    • Shukla Dhyān

These support inner peace, self-control, and spiritual progress.

    Takeaway

Ārta Dhyān is sorrow-based meditation, and Raudra Dhyān is anger- or violence-based meditation. Both should be avoided in Jain practice, because they weaken peace and increase karmic bondage.
