How many gurutatva
In Jainism, the concept of gurutatva generally refers to the essential qualities or attributes of a true Guru (spiritual teacher). There are traditionally 8 gurutatvas recognized in Jain teachings. These are:
- Samyaktva (Right Faith)
- Jnana (Right Knowledge)
- Charitra (Right Conduct)
- Tapas (Austerity/Spiritual Practices)
- Virya (Spiritual Energy)
- Dayā (Compassion)
- Kshamā (Forgiveness)
- Shama (Tranquility/Restraint)
These qualities are considered essential for someone to be recognized as a true Guru in Jainism. They help guide the disciple on the path of liberation (moksha).
