Masshaman means what?
In Jainism, "Masshaman" (often spelled as "Maas Shaman") refers to the spiritual practice of controlling or pacifying one's passions and senses for a month ("maas" meaning "month" in Hindi/Sanskrit, and "shaman" meaning "pacification" or "control"). This practice usually involves increased austerity, self-discipline, fasting, meditation, and adherence to vows for a specific period of one month. It is aimed at purifying the soul and progressing on the path toward liberation (moksha) by reducing attachment and aversion.
Such observances are especially undertaken during auspicious months like Paryushana or other spiritually significant periods in the Jain calendar.
