A Jina is one who has conquered inner enemies such as anger, pride, deceit, greed, attachment, and aversion.Explanation
In Jain Dharma, the word Jina means victor or conqueror. It does not mean victory over others, but victory over the self.A Jina has fully overcome:
- kashayas such as anger, ego, deceit, and greed
- attachment and hatred
- the bondage of karma
The 24 Tirthankaras are also called Jinas because they attained complete spiritual victory and showed the path to liberation.
