List of kendriya jeev
In Jainism, living beings (jīvas) are classified based on the number of sense organs (indriyas) they possess. "Kendriya jeev" refers to these classifications. Here is the list:
- Ekendriya (One-sensed beings)
- Possess only the sense of touch. - Examples: Earth-bodied beings (prithvikaya), water-bodied beings (ap-kaya), fire-bodied beings (tejaskaya), air-bodied beings (vayukaya), and plant-bodied beings (vanaspati-kaya).
- Dvindriya (Two-sensed beings)
- Possess the senses of touch and taste. - Examples: Worms, shell creatures, some types of small aquatic organisms.
- Trindriya (Three-sensed beings)
- Possess the senses of touch, taste, and smell. - Examples: Ants, lice, some insects.
- Chaturindriya (Four-sensed beings)
- Possess the senses of touch, taste, smell, and sight. - Examples: Bees, flies, moths, scorpions.
- Panchendriya (Five-sensed beings)
- Possess all five senses: touch, taste, smell, sight, and hearing. - Examples: Human beings, animals, birds, heavenly beings, and hellish beings.
This classification is central to Jain teachings about non-violence (ahimsa), as greater care must be taken to avoid harm to beings with more senses.
