Gunasthānak are the 14 stages of spiritual development in Jain Dharma. They show how a soul gradually becomes pure, free from karmic bondage, and finally reaches liberation.Explanation
In Jain philosophy, the soul does not become perfect all at once. It passes through different inner stages based on:- faith
- self-control
- reduction of passions like anger, pride, deceit, and greed
- destruction of karmas
These stages are called Gunasthānak.
They begin with a state of deep ignorance and end with complete liberation, where the soul becomes siddha.
Some important stages include:
- First stage: Wrong belief and spiritual ignorance
- Fourth stage: Right faith begins
- Fifth stage: Partial vows and discipline
- Sixth to tenth stages: Stronger self-control and reduction of passions
- Eleventh to fourteenth stages: Very advanced spiritual purity, leading to liberation
Spiritual Understanding
Gunasthānak teaches that spiritual progress is gradual. It gives hope and direction to the seeker.It reminds us that:
