In Jain Dharma, Gyan Kalyanak is the sacred event when a Tirthankar attains Keval Gyan — infinite and perfect knowledge. At this moment, all knowledge-obscuring karmas are completely destroyed, and the Tirthankar becomes an Omniscient, knowing all substances and their infinite modes directly and perfectly.

Narrative

After renouncing worldly life and accepting diksha, the Tirthankar performs deep tapasya, meditation, and complete inner purification. Free from attachment and aversion, the Tirthankar remains absorbed in the pure nature of the soul.

Through intense spiritual discipline, the destructive karmas gradually become weak. Finally, at the destined moment, the Gyanavarniya karma — the karma that covers knowledge — is completely destroyed. Along with it, the other destructive karmas are also destroyed.

At that sacred moment, the Tirthankar attains Keval Gyan. This is called Gyan Kalyanak.

The heavens and the three worlds rejoice. Celestial beings recognize that a Tirthankar has become omniscient. They come with devotion and create the divine preaching assembly known as the Samavasaran.

In the Samavasaran, the Tirthankar gives divine spiritual discourse. Humans, animals, heavenly beings, and all present souls receive the message according to their own capacity. The Tirthankar teaches the path of liberation through:

When karmas are destroyed through right faith, right knowledge, right conduct, tapasya, and detachment, the soul manifests its natural brilliance.
