    No moksha in 5th aara

    6 days ago 3

    Answer

Yes, according to traditional Jain cosmology, moksha is not attainable in the 5th aara of the present descending time-cycle in Bharat Kshetra.

The current era is called Dushama Aara, the 5th aara. In this period, human beings generally do not possess the required spiritual, physical, and karmic capacity to attain kevalgyan and final liberation.

    Explanation

Jain Dharma explains time as moving in cycles:

    • Utsarpini – ascending time-cycle
    • Avasarpini – descending time-cycle

Each cycle has six aaras. We are currently in the 5th aara of Avasarpini.

    In the present Bharat Kshetra:

    • No new Tirthankar appears in the 5th aara.
    • Kevalgyan is not attained in this era.
    • Therefore, moksha is not attained directly from this region during this time.

The last Tirthankar of this time-cycle, Bhagwan Mahavir, attained moksha before the beginning of the 5th aara.

    Spiritual Understanding

This does not mean spiritual effort is useless.

In the 5th aara, one can still:

    • Develop samyak darshan
    • Practice ahimsa, satya, brahmacharya, aparigraha, and tapas
    • Reduce karmic bondage
    • Prepare the soul for higher spiritual progress in future births
    • Move closer to moksha through right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct

Jain Dharma teaches that even when moksha is not directly attainable in the present era, sincere sadhana still has immense value.

    Takeaway

In the current 5th aara, moksha is not attained in Bharat Kshetra, but spiritual progress is still very meaningful. Every step toward purity of the soul becomes preparation for eventual liberation.
