    chakravarthi in future

    one year ago 174

In Jainism, the concept of a Chakravarthi (also spelled Chakravarti or Chakravarti Raja) refers to a universal monarch, an ideal emperor who rules righteously over the six continents (khandas) of the middle world (Madhyaloka) as described in Jain cosmology. According to Jain tradition, in every half time-cycle (Avasarpini and Utsarpini), there are 12 Chakravarthis. They are considered among the 63 illustrious beings known as the Shalaka Purushas.

The future occurrence of Chakravarthis is governed by the Jain cosmic time cycle. In the present era (the fifth Ara of Avasarpini), Jainism teaches that the time of Chakravarthis, Tirthankaras, and other Shalaka Purushas has passed. No new Chakravarthis will arise in this current Avasarpini era. The last Chakravarthi of our current descending half-cycle (Avasarpini) was King Bharat, the son of the first Tirthankara, Lord Rishabhanatha.

In the future, when the ascending half-cycle (Utsarpini) begins, Jain cosmology states that new Chakravarthis will once again appear along with Tirthankaras and other great beings. However, this will occur after a very long period, as we are currently in the fifth Ara of Avasarpini, with one more Ara (the sixth) to go before the cycle reverses.

In summary, according to Jain teachings:

    • There will be Chakravarthis in the future, but not in the present era.
    • They will appear again in the Utsarpini (ascending) time cycle, after the current period of spiritual decline is complete.
    • The appearance of Chakravarthis is part of the eternal cycle of time (Kalachakra) in Jain cosmology.
