    can jainism be called agnostic

    2 days ago 1

    Answer

Yes, Jainism can be called non-theistic, but it is not accurately called agnostic in the usual sense.

Jainism does not depend on belief in a creator God, but it has very clear teachings about:

    • the soul
    • karma
    • rebirth
    • liberation
    • omniscience
    • Tirthankars and Siddhas

So Jainism is not “agnostic” about spiritual truth.

    Explanation

Agnosticism usually means: “We do not know, or cannot know, whether God or ultimate reality exists.”

Jainism does not teach that. Jain Dharma teaches that reality can be known through:

    • right faith
    • right knowledge
    • right conduct
    • the perfect knowledge of Keval Jnan

However, Jainism rejects the idea of an eternal creator God who creates, controls, and judges the universe. According to Jain philosophy, the universe is beginningless and operates through natural laws, especially the law of karma.

    Spiritual Understanding

Jainism teaches reverence for perfected souls, not worship of a creator deity. The highest beings are Arihants and Siddhas, who have conquered karma and attained liberation.

So Jainism may be described as:

    • non-theistic because it does not accept a creator God
    • spiritual because it strongly affirms soul, karma, and liberation
    • not agnostic because it gives definite teachings about reality and the path to liberation

    Takeaway

Jainism is best described as a non-theistic spiritual religion, not as agnostic. It does not center on God as creator, but it has a clear and profound understanding of the soul, karma, and liberation.
