    Answer

Question 1: Simple steps to do Samayik

    • Choose a clean and quiet place where you can sit peacefully.
    • Wear clean clothes and keep the mind calm.
    • Sit in a stable posture, such as Padmasan, Ardha-padmasan, Sukhasan, or any respectful steady posture.
    • Take a vow of Samayik for a fixed period, traditionally about 48 minutes.
    • Keep equanimity toward all living beings during this time.
    • Avoid worldly activities such as talking unnecessarily, using phone, eating, drinking, business, anger, attachment, or arguments.
    • Recite Jain prayers or sutras if you know them, such as Navkar Mantra, Logassa, Karemi Bhante, or other Samayik sutras according to your tradition.
    • Do meditation on the soul, forgiveness, non-violence, detachment, and purity of thoughts.
    • Reflect on your conduct and ask forgiveness for mistakes made through mind, speech, and body.
    • Complete the Samayik respectfully by ending the vow properly according to the method taught in your tradition.

Question 2: What to do if one does not know the paths/sutras?

    • Do not worry. Samayik is mainly about equanimity, purity, and self-discipline.
    • Recite Navkar Mantra if you know it.
    • If you do not know many sutras, sit peacefully and keep your thoughts pure.
    • Practice silence and avoid harmful thoughts, words, and actions.
    • Contemplate: “I am a soul. I should remain peaceful, forgiving, detached, and non-violent.”
    • Ask for forgiveness mentally from all living beings.
    • Learn gradually from a knowledgeable Guru, elder, Pathshala teacher, or authentic Jain source.
    • Until you learn the full method, do simple Samayik with devotion and sincerity.

    Spiritual Understanding

Samayik means to remain in samata, a state of equanimity. The purpose is not only recitation, but to become peaceful, reduce passions, avoid sin, and experience the purity of the soul.

    Takeaway

If you know the full method, follow it carefully. If you do not know it, begin with Navkar Mantra, silence, forgiveness, non-violence, and peaceful self-reflection. Sincerity and equanimity are most important.
