What if I CNT fast

Answer
If you can’t fast, it is completely okay. Jain Dharma does not teach harming the body. The deeper purpose of fasting is self-control, purity of mind, reduction of passions, and spiritual awareness.
You can still practice Dharma in other meaningful ways.
What You Can Do Instead
- Eat simple food with restraint.
- Avoid favorite foods or rich foods.
- Do Unodari — eat less than your hunger.
- Do Ayambil if your health allows.
- Avoid eating after sunset.
- Do Samayik — sit in calm spiritual reflection.
- Do Pratikraman with sincerity.
- Chant Navkar Mantra with devotion.
- Practice silence for some time.
- Control anger, ego, deceit, and greed.
- Do seva, forgiveness, and kindness.
Spiritual Understanding
In Jain Dharma, fasting is valuable when it supports inner purification. But if fasting creates illness, weakness, pride, irritation, or harm to the body, then its purpose is lost.
True tapas is not only about not eating. It is also about reducing attachment, desires, and passions.
Takeaway
If you cannot fast, do not feel guilty. Practice according to your strength, health, and sincerity. A peaceful mind, pure intention, and self-control are also powerful forms of Jain Dharma.
