    Answer

In Jain Dharma, even if there is true love and an intention to marry, physical intimacy like kissing before marriage is generally connected with kāma-rāga and attachment. So it can still become a cause of kushīl if it crosses the boundary of chastity expected for an unmarried person.

It is not correct to say, “It will only bind Mohanīya karma and will not affect Jñānāvaraṇīya karma in any case.” In Jain karma theory, passions like attachment, desire, and carelessness mainly strengthen Mohanīya karma, but because karmas are bound through activities of mind, speech, and body with passions, one should not assume that only one karma is affected.

    Explanation

In Jainism, the main issue is not only whether two people love each other. The deeper issue is:

    • Is there attachment?
    • Is there sensual desire?
    • Is there loss of self-control?
    • Is the action increasing rāga and moha?

For unmarried people, Jain ethics encourage strong restraint in romantic and physical conduct. Even if marriage is intended later, before marriage the relationship should remain within maryādā, dignity, and self-control.

So a kiss done with sensual feeling is not spiritually neutral. It may strengthen attachment and passion.

    Spiritual Understanding

You are right that Mohanīya karma is especially involved because desire, attachment, and delusion are part of moha. But in Jain Dharma, Mohanīya karma is very powerful because it disturbs right conduct and self-control.

Regarding Jñānāvaraṇīya karma, it is safer and more accurate to say:

    • Such passions primarily bind Mohanīya karma.
    • But careless, passionate actions can support bondage of other karmas too.
    • Therefore, one should not confidently say, “It will never affect Jñānāvaraṇīya karma.”

Jain Dharma teaches caution because karma bondage is subtle.

    Takeaway

If you both truly love each other and intend to marry, the Jain way is to protect that love with purity, restraint, respect, and maryādā. True love should help both souls move toward self-control, not deeper attachment.
