    Answer

In Jain Dharma, even for householders, physical intimacy before marriage is generally not encouraged. If both of you truly love each other and intend marriage, that intention is better than lustful or careless behavior, but a kiss can still involve attachment, passion, and sensual desire.

So it is not correct to say, “No karma is bound at all.”

It may especially relate to mohaniya karma because attachment, desire, and passion are involved. Whether it also affects jñānāvaraṇīya karma cannot be stated in a simple fixed way, because karma-bandha depends on inner intention, intensity of passion, awareness, restraint, and mental state.

    Explanation

For Jain householders, the ideal is:

    • Brahmacharya according to one’s stage of life
    • Faithfulness and purity in relationships
    • Control over sensual desires
    • Avoiding actions that increase attachment and passion

The vow of brahmacharya is stricter for monks and nuns, but householders are also expected to practice restraint. In Jain ethics, purity of intention matters, but intention alone does not make a sensual act completely karma-free.

If the kiss is driven by possessiveness, craving, excitement, secrecy, or loss of self-control, then it strengthens mohaniya karma. If your mind remains respectful, controlled, and committed to dharmic conduct, the intensity of bondage is less.

    Spiritual Understanding

Jain Dharma does not say love is bad. But it teaches that attachment, craving, and sensual indulgence bind the soul.

    True love should lead to:

    • respect
    • responsibility
    • self-control
    • honesty
    • commitment
    • spiritual growth

If you both intend marriage, the more dharmic path is to keep boundaries until marriage and avoid actions that increase passion or emotional dependency.

    Takeaway

A loving kiss before marriage is not the same as monk/nun-level violation, but it is not completely free from karma either. It mainly risks strengthening mohaniya karma, and the exact karmic effect depends on your inner passions and awareness. The safest Jain approach is love with restraint, purity, and commitment.
