    Avadhi gyan in fifth era

    52 minutes ago 3

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, Avadhi Gyan is a type of direct knowledge through which a soul can know material objects beyond ordinary sense perception, within certain limits of place, time, and substance.

Regarding the fifth era — Dusham Kāl of the present Avasarpiṇī — Jain tradition generally teaches that the highest spiritual attainments are greatly reduced compared to earlier eras.

However, Avadhi Gyan is not completely impossible in the fifth era. Certain beings, especially devas and narakis, naturally possess Avadhi Gyan according to Jain doctrine. Among humans, it is considered extremely rare and limited in this era.

    Explanation

Jainism describes five types of knowledge:

    • Mati Gyan – sensory and mental knowledge
    • Shrut Gyan – scriptural/verbal knowledge
    • Avadhi Gyan – clairvoyant knowledge of material things
    • Manahparyaya Gyan – direct knowledge of another’s thoughts
    • Keval Gyan – perfect omniscience

Avadhi Gyan can arise due to:

    • Birth-based capacity, especially in heavenly and hellish beings
    • Spiritual purification, in certain advanced souls

In the fifth era, spiritual strength, lifespan, bodily power, and purity of conduct are much weaker than in earlier times. Therefore, extraordinary attainments among humans are very rare.

    Spiritual Understanding

The important point is not to become fascinated by miraculous knowledge, but to focus on:

    • Right Faith
    • Right Knowledge
    • Right Conduct
    • Reduction of passions
    • Practice of ahimsa, samyama, and tapas

In Jain Dharma, even Avadhi Gyan is not liberation. Only destruction of karmas and realization of the soul lead toward moksha.

    Takeaway

Avadhi Gyan can exist in the fifth era, especially among devas and narakis, but for humans it is extremely rare and limited. Jain Dharma teaches us to seek spiritual purification rather than supernatural powers.
