What are basic daily practices to follow to gain punya

    2 hrs ago 3

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, puṇya is gained through pure thoughts, kind words, compassionate actions, self-discipline, and devotion. Basic daily practices include:

    • Practice Ahimsa — avoid hurting living beings by thought, speech, and action.
    • Speak truthfully and gently — avoid lies, harsh words, gossip, and anger.
    • Do charity — give food, help, knowledge, medicine, or support to those in need.
    • Respect parents, elders, teachers, saints, and all living beings.
    • Perform Namaskār Mantra daily with devotion.
    • Do sāmāyik or quiet reflection if possible, even for a short time.
    • Control desires — avoid greed, excess consumption, and unnecessary luxury.
    • Ask for forgiveness for mistakes and try not to repeat them.
    • Eat with awareness — follow vegetarianism and avoid careless harm as much as possible.
    • End the day with self-review — reflect on where you acted with anger, pride, deceit, or greed.

    Explanation

According to Jain Dharma, puṇya is created when our actions are connected with compassion, humility, service, discipline, and devotion. Even small daily actions can become causes of puṇya when done with a pure intention.

    Examples:

    • Feeding someone with kindness
    • Helping a sick person
    • Saving or protecting life
    • Speaking peacefully instead of reacting with anger
    • Offering devotion to Arihant, Siddha, Āchārya, Upādhyāya, and Sādhu
    • Supporting religious activities and temples with humility

    Spiritual Understanding

Jain Dharma teaches that puṇya brings pleasant results, but the higher goal is not only to collect puṇya. The ultimate aim is to purify the soul and move toward liberation.

So, while doing good deeds, one should try to reduce:

    • Attachment
    • Ego
    • Expectation of reward
    • Pride in charity or religious practice

Good actions done with humility support spiritual progress. Good actions done with ego may still create puṇya, but they also keep the soul attached to worldly results.

    Takeaway

Live each day with ahimsa, truth, compassion, charity, self-control, devotion, and forgiveness. These daily practices help create puṇya and gradually purify the soul.
