    Answer

Yes, you can reduce this habit gradually with discipline, and Jain Dharma would encourage you to control it if it is harming your studies, focus, time, and inner peace.

Watching Korean drama itself is not automatically a “sin” in Jainism. But if it leads to attachment, distraction, waste of time, emotional disturbance, or neglect of duties, then it becomes spiritually harmful.

    Explanation

In Jain Dharma, the main issue is not “Korean drama” specifically. The issue is:

    • Rāga — attachment and craving
    • Asaṃyama — lack of self-control
    • Pramāda — carelessness or negligence in duties
    • Kaṣāya — passions and emotional disturbance

If watching dramas makes you say, “Just one more episode,” and then you lose study time, sleep, concentration, or peace of mind, then it is increasing attachment and weakening self-discipline.

Jainism teaches moderation, awareness, and control over the senses. Entertainment is not the highest goal of life; it should never become stronger than your responsibilities and spiritual growth.

    How to Reduce It Practically

    • Do not stop suddenly if it feels too difficult. Reduce slowly.
    • Set a fixed limit: for example, only 30–45 minutes after completing studies.
    • Use it as a reward: “First 2 hours study, then 1 episode.”
    • Do not watch at night: night watching often becomes uncontrolled.
    • Remove triggers: uninstall apps during exams or use app timers.
    • Keep your phone away while studying.
    • Make a daily timetable and include study, rest, prayer, and limited entertainment.
    • Practice small vows: “Today I will not watch before finishing my work.”

A Jain-friendly method is to take a small niyam:

    • “I will watch only after completing my studies.”
    • “I will not watch more than one episode a day.”
    • “I will avoid dramas during exam days.”
    • “I will do 5 minutes of Navkar Mantra or quiet reflection before studying.”

    Spiritual Understanding

Jain Dharma teaches that freedom comes from self-control, not from becoming a slave to desires. If the mind keeps running toward entertainment again and again, it becomes restless.

Reducing this habit is a form of saṃyama — self-restraint. Even a small control over one habit strengthens your soul’s discipline.

    Before watching, ask yourself:

    • “Is this helping me or controlling me?”
    • “Have I completed my duty first?”
    • “Will I feel peaceful after this, or guilty?”

    Takeaway

There is no special Jain rule saying “Korean drama must not be watched.” But Jainism asks you to avoid attachment, carelessness, and loss of self-control.

So the best path is: study first, entertainment later, and always in limit. This itself is a good practice of Jain discipline.
