    Vidhi of rai pratikaman

    an hour ago 3

    Answer

“Rai Pratikraman” generally means the morning Pratikraman performed by Jain shravaks/shravikas to repent for faults committed during the night and to renew the resolve for right conduct during the day.

The exact vidhi can vary by Jain tradition, gaccha, sampradāy, and family practice, so it is best learned from a knowledgeable guru, upādhyāy, sādhu-sādhvī, or trained pratikraman teacher.

    General Vidhi

    A commonly followed outline is:

    • 1. Preparation
Bathe or clean yourself, wear clean clothes, sit in a clean and peaceful place, and keep the mind calm.
    • 2. Namaskār and Bhāva
Begin with devotion to Arihant, Siddha, Āchārya, Upādhyāy, and Sādhu. Cultivate humility and repentance.
    • 3. Sāmāyik Bhāva
Sit with equanimity and try to remain free from attachment, aversion, anger, pride, deceit, and greed.
    • 4. Ālochana
Mentally confess and reflect on mistakes committed during the night through mind, speech, and body.
    • 5. Pratikraman
Recite the prescribed sutras and reflect on violations of vows, carelessness, harsh speech, violence, falsehood, and other faults.
    • 6. Pratyākhyān
Take a sincere resolve to avoid such faults again and to follow dharma with greater awareness.
    • 7. Khamāpanā
Ask forgiveness from all living beings and cultivate forgiveness toward all.
    • 8. Kāyotsarg
Perform meditation by withdrawing attention from the body and focusing on the soul’s purity.
    • 9. Completion
End with reverence, peace, and a renewed commitment to ahimsā, saiyam, and right conduct.

    Spiritual Understanding

Rai Pratikraman is not only a ritual recitation. Its main purpose is:

    • To recognize one’s mistakes
    • To repent sincerely
    • To reduce karmic bondage
    • To strengthen awareness and self-discipline
    • To begin the day with purity and restraint

    Takeaway

The heart of Rai Pratikraman is inner purification: “I have made mistakes knowingly or unknowingly; may I repent, seek forgiveness, and walk today with greater awareness, non-violence, and humility.”
