When I go to temple what all prayers or mantra o should recite
When you visit a Jain temple, the main focus is on devotion (bhakti), respect (vandana), and contemplation (samayik or pratikraman). The prayers and mantras you may recite depend on your tradition (Digambara or Shwetambara), but some universally respected prayers and mantras include:
1. Namokar Mantra (Navkar Mantra)
This is the most fundamental and important prayer in Jainism, paying homage to the Panch Parmesthi (five supreme beings):Namokar Mantra: ``` णमो अरिहंताणं । णमो सिद्धाणं । णमो आयरियाणं । णमो उवज्झायाणं । णमो लोए सव्वसाहूणं ॥
Eso pancha namokkaram, savvapavappanasano। Mangalānam ca savvesim, padhamam havai mangalam॥ ```
2. Khamemi Savva Jivae
This prayer is for forgiveness and can be recited in front of the idols:``` खमेमि सव्व जीवेसु, वेरं मंज्ज न केणइ। मित्ति में सव्व भूएसु, वेरं मज्झं न किण्चइ॥ ```
3. Chaityavandan
If you know the Chaityavandan ritual, you may perform it, which includes various mantras and prayers like:- Iryavahi Sutra (for asking forgiveness for mistakes done while walking to the temple)
- Pratikraman Sutras
- Logassa Sutra
- Jai Jai Vitarag (for praising the Tirthankaras)
4. Bhaktamar Stotra or Other Stotras
Many devotees recite stotras like Bhaktamar Stotra (in praise of Lord Adinath), Kalyan Mandir Stotra, or other hymns dedicated to the Tirthankaras.5. Meditation and Contemplation
You can also spend time in silent meditation or contemplation on the teachings of the Tirthankaras.---
Simple Sequence for Temple Visit:
- Bow your head to the idols/Tirthankaras and recite the Namokar Mantra.
- Perform Pradakshina (circumambulation) around the idol if customary.
- Recite additional stotras or chaityavandan if you know them.
- Sit in meditation for a few minutes, reflecting on right conduct and forgiveness.
Remember: Jain prayers focus on veneration and reflection, not asking for material favors. The intention is to cultivate humility, reverence, and inner purity.
If you are new, starting with the Namokar Mantra with devotion is always appropriate.
