    Samosharan tap vidhi

    one year ago 349

In Jainism, Samosharan Tap Vidhi refers to a specific devotional and meditative practice (vidhi) connected with the concept of the Samosharan—the divine preaching assembly where a Tirthankara imparts the sermons of true knowledge (Samyak Gyan) to all beings after attaining Keval Gyan (omniscience).

    What is Samosharan?

    • Samosharan is a divine, celestial assembly where a Tirthankara delivers sermons.
    • Beings from all realms (humans, animals, celestial beings, and even hellish beings) can attend and listen.
    • It represents absolute equality, compassion, and the universal accessibility of truth.

    Samosharan Tap Vidhi

The Samosharan Tap Vidhi is a spiritual observance and ritual performed by devotees to express devotion and to purify their souls by remembering the Samosharan and the teachings of the Tirthankara. It is not a Tap (austerity) in the sense of severe penance, but rather a devotional practice that includes:
    1. Meditation and Contemplation

    - Meditating on the image or concept of the Samosharan. - Visualizing oneself as present in the assembly, listening to the Tirthankara’s sermon.

    1. Recitation

    - Chanting hymns or stotras (prayers) that glorify the Samosharan and the Tirthankara’s teachings. - Some sects have special Samosharan Stotras or prayers.

    1. Pradakshina (Circumambulation)

    - If at a temple with a Samosharan symbol or idol, devotees often perform circumambulations as a sign of reverence.

    1. Fasting or Simple Austerities

    - Some may undertake fasting (upvaas), partial fasting (ekasana, ayambil), or abstain from certain foods as part of the tap.

    1. Offering

    - Offering flowers, rice, or other symbolic items at the Samosharan idol or image.

    Purpose and Significance

    • Cultivates humility, equality, and devotion.
    • Reminds the devotee of the Tirthankara’s compassion and the accessibility of true knowledge.
    • Purifies the mind and strengthens faith in Jain principles.

    Scriptural Source

While there is no single scriptural text that outlines a unified "Samosharan Tap Vidhi," elements of this practice are found in various Jain Agamas, commentaries, and prayer books (puja paddhati) used in temples, especially among the Shwetambar and Digambar sects.

    Example Prayer (Samosharan Stotra)

The following is a popular verse from a Samosharan stotra:

"Samosharan mahamantra hai, Jeev matra ne moksh marg batave, Tirthankar ni vaani sarvane sam bhave, Bhakti bhav thi vandan kariye."

(Translation: The Samosharan is a great mantra, showing the path of liberation to all beings, the words of the Tirthankara are for everyone, let us offer our devotion with reverence.)

--- If you are looking for the detailed ritual steps (vidhi) as practiced in a particular Jain tradition or temple, please specify the sect or tradition (Shwetambar, Digambar, etc.), and I can provide a more detailed procedure.
