I have upvas my friend came over my house we talked alot of about past future and present

    3 hrs ago 4

    Answer

During upvas, the ideal is not only to avoid food, but also to keep the mind, speech, and body as peaceful and spiritual as possible.

Talking with your friend is not automatically wrong, but if the conversation became too much about worldly matters, past memories, future plans, or unnecessary discussions, then it may have reduced the spiritual focus of the upvas.

    Explanation

In Jain Dharma, upvas is a form of tapasya. Its deeper purpose is:

    • To reduce attachment to the body
    • To control desires
    • To practice silence, awareness, and self-discipline
    • To spend more time in samayik, pratikraman, swadhyay, mantra, and reflection

If the talking was harmless and respectful, you should not feel excessive guilt. But if it involved gossip, anger, criticism, pride, attachment, or unnecessary excitement, then it is good to do inner reflection and ask for forgiveness.

    Spiritual Understanding

Upvas becomes more powerful when it is joined with:

    • Maun or limited speech
    • Samayik
    • Pratikraman
    • Jain stavan, sutra, or mantra
    • Forgiveness and calmness

Even if the day was not perfect, the important thing is to learn and improve. Jain Dharma teaches awareness, not hopelessness.

    Takeaway

Your upvas is not “wasted,” but next time try to keep conversations limited and more spiritual. If you feel you made a mistake, calmly do Michhami Dukkadam in your heart and continue your tapasya with better awareness.
