what if i don't take pachhkaan but still fix it in my mind that I have to do ektana and I do that

    Answer

In Jain practice, if you mentally decide to do Ektana and complete it, it is still a good act of self-control and austerity.

However, traditionally, taking Pachhkaan is considered important because it makes the vow clear, conscious, and spiritually stronger.

    Explanation

Pachhkaan means formally resolving or renouncing something for a specific period, usually with awareness and sincerity.

If you only decide in your mind:

    • You are still practicing restraint.
    • You are still reducing attachment to food.
    • You are still doing a form of tapasya.

    But when you take Pachhkaan:

    • Your intention becomes more disciplined.
    • You become more careful not to break the vow.
    • It becomes a proper religious commitment, not just a personal plan.

So, doing Ektana without Pachhkaan is beneficial, but doing it with proper Pachhkaan is considered more complete according to Jain tradition.

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jain Dharma, inner intention matters greatly, but discipline and formal vows also help purify the soul. Pachhkaan strengthens mindfulness, humility, and commitment.

    Takeaway

If you did Ektana with sincere intention, it is good. But whenever possible, it is better to take proper Pachhkaan before beginning, according to your tradition and guidance from elders or Guru Bhagwant.
