Navkarshi Pachkan
Navkarshi Pachkan is the vow taken in the morning to abstain from food and drink until Navkarshi time, which is traditionally after a fixed period from sunrise.
A commonly recited Navkarshi Pachkan is:
“ઉગ્ગએ સૂરિયે, નમુક્કારસહિયં પચ્ચકખામિ।”
Meaning:
After sunrise, with the remembrance of the Namokar Mantra, I take the Pachkan for Navkarshi.
Spiritual Understanding
Navkarshi helps cultivate:
- Discipline over food and senses
- Mindfulness from the beginning of the day
- Respect for Jain vows and restraint
- A peaceful and spiritual start to daily life
If you follow a particular Jain tradition or gaccha, it is best to take the exact Pachkan wording from your Guru Bhagwant or family tradition.
