why daslakshni is celebrated in bhadrapad only, why these 10 days are celebrated in every religion

    2 hrs ago 3

    Answer

Daslakshani Parva is celebrated in the month of Bhadrapad because, according to Jain tradition, this period is considered especially suitable for self-purification, repentance, study, restraint, and spiritual discipline.

The ten days are dedicated to the ten supreme virtues of the soul, called Das Lakshan Dharma:

    • Uttam Kshama — supreme forgiveness
    • Uttam Mardav — supreme humility
    • Uttam Arjav — supreme straightforwardness
    • Uttam Shauch — supreme purity/contentment
    • Uttam Satya — supreme truthfulness
    • Uttam Sanyam — supreme self-restraint
    • Uttam Tap — supreme austerity
    • Uttam Tyag — supreme renunciation
    • Uttam Akinchanya — supreme non-possessiveness
    • Uttam Brahmacharya — supreme celibacy/chastity

    Why in Bhadrapad?

In Jain practice, the rainy season period is traditionally connected with Chaturmas, when monks and nuns stay in one place and devote more time to teaching, study, meditation, and discipline. Laypeople also take greater inspiration for spiritual practice during this time.

Daslakshani Parva falls in Bhadrapad Shukla Paksha in the Digambar Jain tradition. This timing is accepted by tradition as a spiritually important period for observing the ten dharmas.

Are these 10 days celebrated in every religion?

No. Daslakshani Parva is specifically a Jain festival, especially observed in the Digambar Jain tradition.

However, the values taught during these ten days—such as forgiveness, humility, truth, self-control, purity, renunciation, and compassion—are respected in many spiritual traditions. So, while the festival itself is Jain, the virtues are universal.

    Spiritual Understanding

Daslakshani is not merely a festival of rituals. It is a time to look within and ask:

    • Am I reducing anger?
    • Am I becoming more humble?
    • Am I speaking truth with kindness?
    • Am I controlling desires?
    • Am I moving closer to the pure nature of the soul?

In Jain Dharma, these ten virtues are not temporary practices for only ten days. The ten days are a reminder to cultivate them throughout life.

    Takeaway

Daslakshani is celebrated in Bhadrapad because Jain tradition regards this period as highly suitable for spiritual purification. It is not celebrated by every religion as a festival, but its message of forgiveness, restraint, truth, purity, and renunciation is valuable for all human beings.
