Which is Icchakara stotra and explain

    one year ago 157

The Icchakara Stotra is a revered Jain prayer dedicated to the twenty-four Tirthankaras, especially focusing on Lord Parshvanath, the 23rd Tirthankara. The stotra is also known as the Icchākarī Stotra or sometimes as Parshvanath Icchakara Stotra. It is one of the most popular and frequently recited stotras in the Jain tradition, especially among the Śvetāmbara sect.

    Meaning and Purpose

    • The word "Icchakara" comes from the Sanskrit words "icchā" (desire/wish) and "kara" (maker/doer), implying that this stotra fulfills the desires or wishes of the devotee who chants it with faith and devotion.
    • It is believed that sincere recitation of the Icchakara Stotra can remove obstacles, bring peace, and fulfill the devotee's righteous wishes, especially during times of difficulty or distress.

    Content and Structure

    • The stotra consists of verses glorifying Lord Parshvanath and other Tirthankaras, highlighting their virtues, compassion, powers, and the benefits of their worship.
    • It often includes salutations (vandana) and requests for protection and blessings.
    • The stotra is written in simple yet profound language, making it accessible for daily recitation.

    Cultural and Ritual Importance

    • Many Jains recite the Icchakara Stotra daily, especially in the morning or before beginning important tasks.
    • It is often recited during special pujas, rituals, and auspicious occasions in Jain homes and temples.

    Example (First Verse)

Here is the first verse of the Icchakara Stotra in Sanskrit (Devanagari) and its meaning:

    इच्छाकारं च पार्श्वं च नमस्कारं च सिद्धये। दुःखदुःख विनाशाय परं कल्याणदायकम्॥

Transliteration: Icchākāraṃ ca Pārśvaṃ ca namaskāraṃ ca siddhaye, duḥkha-duḥkha vināśāya paraṃ kalyāṇa-dāyakam.

Meaning: "I bow to Lord Parshvanath, the fulfiller of wishes, and offer salutations for the attainment (of spiritual goals). His worship destroys all sorrows and brings supreme auspiciousness."

    In Summary

The Icchakara Stotra is a devotional hymn in Jainism, especially dedicated to Lord Parshvanath, and is recited with the faith that it brings spiritual and worldly benefits, removes obstacles, and bestows peace and well-being. Its recitation is an important part of Jain devotional practice.
