If I'm taking a tyaag for 1-2 hour, how to do it and what to say and how to open it?
Answer
For a short tyaag of 1–2 hours, you can take a simple vow in front of Bhagwan, Guru, or with sincere inner feeling.
You may say:
“I take tyaag of ______ for ______ hours. Until this time is completed, I will not use, eat, drink, touch, or do this item/activity. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ if any mistake happens knowingly or unknowingly.”
Fill in the blanks with what you are giving up and for how long.
Example:
“I take tyaag of mobile phone for 2 hours. Until these 2 hours are completed, I will not use my mobile phone. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.”
How to Do It
- Decide clearly what you are taking tyaag of.
- Decide the exact time period, such as 1 hour or 2 hours.
- Take the tyaag with a calm and sincere mind.
- During that time, avoid the thing completely.
- Try to keep your thoughts peaceful and spiritual.
How to Open It
When the time is completed, you may say:
“My tyaag of ______ for ______ hours is now complete. If there was any mistake, I ask forgiveness. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.”
Example:
“My tyaag of mobile phone for 2 hours is now complete. If there was any mistake, I ask forgiveness. Michchhāmi Dukkaḍaṃ.”
After that, you may use or take the item again.
Important Understanding
In Jain Dharma, tyaag should be taken with:
- Clarity — know exactly what you are giving up
- Sincerity — take it with honest intention
- Awareness — avoid breaking it carelessly
- Humility — ask forgiveness if a mistake happens
Takeaway
Tyaag is not only about leaving something outside. It is also a practice of self-control, awareness, and reducing attachment. Even a 1–2 hour tyaag, if done sincerely, is spiritually meaningful.
