    Same gender love is forbidden?

    3 hrs ago 8

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, the main ethical focus is not “same gender” versus “opposite gender,” but control of passions, attachment, desire, and sensual indulgence.

For monks and nuns, all sexual activity is completely forbidden under the vow of brahmacharya.

For householders, Jain Dharma teaches restraint, responsibility, non-harm, and reduction of sensual attachment. Traditional Jain ethics generally place sexual conduct within disciplined limits, especially connected with fidelity and self-control.

    Explanation

    Jainism’s concern is primarily with:

    • Rāga — attachment and craving
    • Kāma — sensual desire
    • Moha — delusion and emotional bondage
    • Hiṃsā — harm caused through body, speech, or mind

So, Jain Dharma does not encourage hatred, violence, insult, or rejection toward anyone based on their sexuality. Such behavior would itself go against ahiṃsā and compassion.

At the same time, Jain Dharma encourages every person—whatever their orientation—to gradually reduce passions and live with self-discipline.

    Spiritual Understanding

From a Jain spiritual view, the soul is beyond gender. Male, female, and other bodily identities belong to the body, not the pure soul.

The path of liberation is about purifying the soul by reducing attachment, desire, anger, pride, deceit, greed, and possessiveness.

    Takeaway

Same-gender attraction should not be a reason for hatred or disrespect. Jain Dharma asks us to practice ahiṃsā, compassion, self-restraint, and spiritual progress. For serious guidance, one should respectfully consult a learned Jain teacher within one’s tradition.
