Can I meet my mother in dev Lok even if my mother dies before me in Digambar jainism as a female layperson

    an hour ago 2

    Answer

In Digambar Jainism, it is not possible to say with certainty whether you will meet your mother in Dev Lok after death.

According to Jain Dharma, after death each soul takes its next birth according to its own karma. If your mother is born as a heavenly being in Dev Lok, and you are also later born in a compatible heavenly realm, then meeting may be possible. But Jain teachings do not encourage attachment-based hope for reunion after death.

    Explanation

    In Jainism:

    • Every soul is independent.
    • Birth after death is decided by karma.
    • A person may be reborn in Dev Lok, human realm, animal/plant realm, or hellish realm depending on their karmas.
    • Family relationships belong to the present birth only.

So, even if your mother dies before you, her soul will immediately move on to the next birth according to her karmic condition. Later, when your life ends, your next birth will also depend on your own karmas.

As a female layperson in the Digambar tradition, you can still earn great punya through right faith, devotion, self-restraint, compassion, charity, fasting, samayik, pratikraman, worship, and living a dharmic life. Such punya may lead to heavenly birth, but it cannot be guaranteed.

    Spiritual Understanding

Jain Dharma teaches that love should become less possessive and more spiritual. Instead of focusing mainly on meeting again in Dev Lok, the higher Jain approach is:

    • pray for your mother’s soul’s spiritual welfare,
    • do dharmic activities with pure intention,
    • reduce attachment and grief,
    • strengthen your own path toward samyak darshan and liberation.

True spiritual love is not only “I want to meet her again,” but “May her soul progress toward peace, purity, and moksha.”

    Takeaway

You may meet your mother again only if both souls’ karmas lead to such a circumstance, but Jainism does not promise this. The best path is to live with dharma, reduce attachment, and dedicate good thoughts and virtuous actions for the spiritual welfare of both souls.
