    Answer

Yes, you and your toddler can do pooja.

In Jain Dharma, a toddler touching your mother-in-law during her period does not make the child spiritually unfit to do pooja. A small child does not understand such rules, so there is no fault on the child.

    Explanation

Traditionally, during menstruation, many Jain families follow certain household maryada, such as the woman not doing pooja, not touching temple items, or avoiding the home derasar. These practices are followed differently in different families and Jain communities.

But if your toddler casually touches her:

    • The toddler is innocent and not responsible.
    • You do not become spiritually impure because of that.
    • You may wash the child’s hands/feet and your own hands if you want to follow cleanliness.
    • Then you and your toddler may respectfully do pooja.

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jain Dharma, the main feeling behind pooja is bhav — devotion, humility, purity of mind, and reverence toward Arihant Bhagwan. External cleanliness is important, but fear, guilt, or confusion should not disturb devotion.

    Takeaway

Wash hands, maintain cleanliness, and do pooja with peaceful and pure feelings. Your toddler touching your mother-in-law during her period does not stop you or the child from doing pooja.
