    how to start aalochana

    one year ago 267

In Jainism, Aalochana refers to the practice of self-confession, introspection, and repentance for one's actions, especially those that may have violated the vows (vratas) or caused harm (himsa). It is an important part of daily spiritual discipline and is often performed during Pratikraman.

    How to Start Aalochana:

    1. Prepare Yourself:

    - Find a quiet and clean place where you will not be disturbed. - Sit in a meditative posture, calm your mind, and focus inward.

    1. Invoke the Arihants and Gurus:

    - Begin by offering salutations (Namokar Mantra) to the Arihants, Siddhas, Acharyas, Upadhyayas, and all Sadhus.

    1. State Your Intent:

    - With folded hands, express your intention to perform aalochana and seek forgiveness for any wrongdoings, knowingly or unknowingly committed.

    1. Introspect:

    - Recall your actions, words, and thoughts since your last confession. - Reflect on any breaches of vows, unnecessary violence, harsh speech, dishonesty, or attachment.

    1. Confess:

    - Verbally or mentally acknowledge your faults. Traditional Jain texts or Pratikraman sutras may be recited, such as: - “Michhami Dukkadam” (I seek forgiveness for any harm caused). - “Khamemi Savve Jiva” (I forgive all living beings). - If you know the specific faults, state them clearly.

    1. Resolve:

    - Make a sincere resolution (pratyakhyan) not to repeat the mistakes. - Develop a feeling of detachment and compassion.

    1. Conclude:

    - End the aalochana with prayers for spiritual upliftment and reaffirmation of your vows.

    Note:

    • In the presence of a Guru or Sadhvi, aalochana may be done directly to them.
    • Laypersons can perform personal aalochana daily, especially during samayik or pratikraman.

If you want a specific aalochana sutra or a step-by-step daily routine, please let me know your tradition (Svetambara or Digambara), as the procedure may differ slightly.
