Can I go to theatre in paryushan

    4 hrs ago 3

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, during Paryushan, it is generally considered better to avoid going to a theatre for movies or entertainment.

Paryushan is a sacred time for:

    • Self-discipline
    • Repentance
    • Pratikraman
    • Swadhyay
    • Tapasya
    • Reducing worldly distractions

So, while going to a theatre may not be called a “sin” in a simple everyday sense, it is not spiritually suitable for the mood and purpose of Paryushan.

    Explanation

Paryushan is meant to turn the mind inward. Theatre, movies, loud entertainment, and indulgence usually increase attachment, distraction, excitement, and sometimes emotions like anger, desire, fear, or laughter at inappropriate things.

During Paryushan, Jains try to practice:

    • Sanyam – self-restraint
    • Tyag – giving up unnecessary pleasures
    • Bhavna – spiritual reflection
    • Kshamapana – forgiveness

Because of this, avoiding entertainment is considered a good practice.

    Spiritual Understanding

The question is not only “Can I go?” but also “Will this help my soul?”

Paryushan is a rare opportunity to reduce worldly activities and focus on purification of the soul. If we voluntarily give up entertainment for a few days, it strengthens inner discipline and supports spiritual growth.

    Takeaway

It is best to avoid going to the theatre during Paryushan and instead spend that time in Pratikraman, listening to pravachan, reading Jain teachings, doing seva, or practicing silence and reflection.
