I am unable to do samayik or pratikaman during paryushan due to office timings, but I am doing tiviahar upvas and go to derasar for pooja and do aangi ke darshan while returning back from office.
Answer
What you are doing is already very meaningful and spiritually valuable.
During Paryushan, the main purpose is to increase:
- Samyak Darshan — right faith
- Samyak Jnan — right knowledge
- Samyak Charitra — right conduct
- Tap — austerity and self-discipline
- Kshama — forgiveness
- Atma-chintan — reflection on the soul
If office timings do not allow you to do full Samayik or Pratikraman, you should not feel discouraged. Your tivihar upvas, Derasar visit, Pooja, and Aangi darshan are all good devotional and spiritual efforts.
Explanation
In Jain Dharma, intention and inner purity are very important. Paryushan is not only about doing fixed rituals; it is about reducing passions, practicing restraint, increasing awareness, and moving closer to the soul.
If you cannot do full Samayik or Pratikraman because of unavoidable work responsibilities, you can still observe Paryushan sincerely by doing small but regular practices such as:
- Doing Navkar Mantra with concentration
- Asking forgiveness from family, friends, and others
- Practicing calmness and avoiding anger at work
- Eating with restraint and awareness
- Maintaining truthfulness and non-violence in speech
- Reading or listening to Jain pravachan whenever possible
- Doing short internal reflection before sleeping
Even if you cannot do full Pratikraman, you may mentally repent for mistakes of the day and resolve not to repeat them. This feeling of repentance is very important in Jain practice.
Spiritual Understanding
Tivihar upvas is a form of tapasya and shows discipline over the body and senses. Going to Derasar after office, doing Pooja, and taking Aangi darshan show devotion toward Arihant Parmatma.
But along with external practices, try to keep the inner bhav pure:
- Do not feel guilty if you genuinely cannot manage the full ritual.
- Do not compare your Paryushan with others.
- Try to reduce anger, ego, deceit, and greed during the day.
- Keep the feeling of Michhami Dukkadam in your heart.
In Jain Dharma, both dravya and bhav matter. If full external ritual is not possible, sincere inner bhav still has great value.
Takeaway
Continue your tivihar upvas, Derasar visit, Pooja, and Aangi darshan with devotion. If possible, add even a short period of Navkar Mantra, repentance, and forgiveness daily. Paryushan is about purifying the soul, and your sincere effort is spiritually meaningful.
