Answer

Simandhar Swami, also respectfully called Shree Simandhar Nath Tirthankar, is a living Tirthankar according to Jain tradition. He is not a Tirthankar of our Bharat Kshetra’s present time cycle, but he is presently preaching in Mahavideh Kshetra.

In Jain Dharma, it is believed that while there are no living Tirthankars currently present in our Bharat Kshetra, Tirthankars are always present in Mahavideh Kshetra. Shree Simandhar Swami is one such present-living Tirthankar.

Life Story

According to Jain tradition, Shree Simandhar Swami was born in Mahavideh Kshetra. His father was King Shreyans and his mother was Queen Satyaki. Like all Tirthankars, before his birth, his mother saw the auspicious dreams that indicate the arrival of a great soul.

From childhood, Simandhar Swami possessed extraordinary purity, compassion, detachment, and spiritual greatness. He lived as a prince, but inwardly he remained detached from worldly pleasures.

At the proper time, seeing the temporary nature of worldly life, he renounced royal comforts and accepted Diksha. Through intense spiritual practice, meditation, and complete destruction of the four destructive karmas, he attained Keval Gnan, infinite knowledge.

After attaining Keval Gnan, he established the Tirth, the fourfold Jain Sangh:

• Sadhus
• Sadhvis
• Shravaks
• Shravikas

As a Tirthankar, he gives divine preaching in the Samavasaran, where all living beings can understand his teachings according to their own capacity.

Spiritual Importance

Shree Simandhar Swami is especially revered because he is believed to be a present-living Tirthankar. Devotees worship him with deep faith because:

• He is currently present in Mahavideh Kshetra.
• He is giving Deshna for the liberation of souls.
• Remembering him strengthens right faith and devotion.
• His worship inspires detachment, purity, and the path of Moksha.

In Jain belief, one cannot physically go to Mahavideh Kshetra from our present Bharat Kshetra by ordinary means, but through devotion, meditation, and pure bhav, one can spiritually connect with the living Tirthankar.

Teaching

The teaching of Shree Simandhar Swami is the same eternal Jain Dharma taught by all Tirthankars:

• Ahimsa — non-violence toward all living beings
• Satya — truthfulness
• Achaurya — not stealing
• Brahmacharya — purity and self-restraint
• Aparigraha — non-attachment
• Samyak Darshan, Samyak Gnan, Samyak Charitra — right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct
