    Shri Varanasi Parshwanath story

    an hour ago 2

    Answer

Shri Varanasi Parshwanath refers to Bhagwan Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankar of Jain Dharma, who was born in Varanasi.

Bhagwan Parshwanath’s life is deeply connected with compassion, renunciation, protection of living beings, and victory over inner passions.

    Story

Bhagwan Parshwanath was born in Varanasi to King Ashvasen and Queen Vama Devi. From childhood, he was noble, compassionate, and spiritually inclined.

One important event from his earlier life shows his deep compassion. Once, Prince Parshwanath saw an ascetic performing penance with a fire ritual. With his divine insight, Parshwanath realized that a pair of snakes was trapped inside the burning wood. He asked the ascetic to stop, but the ascetic did not believe him.

When the wood was opened, the snakes were found inside. Parshwanath saved them and gave them spiritual guidance. Those souls later became Dharnendra and Padmavati, who are traditionally associated with Bhagwan Parshwanath.

Later, Prince Parshwanath renounced worldly life and accepted diksha. After deep meditation and austerity, he attained Keval Gyan, perfect knowledge.

During his spiritual life, the soul who had been the angry ascetic was reborn as Meghmali and tried to disturb Bhagwan Parshwanath’s meditation by creating storms and heavy rain. At that time, Dharnendra protected Bhagwan Parshwanath by spreading his serpent hoods over him, and Padmavati also served with devotion.

Bhagwan Parshwanath remained completely calm and detached. This shows the greatness of forgiveness, equanimity, and spiritual strength.

Finally, Bhagwan Parshwanath attained moksha at Sammed Shikharji.

    Spiritual Understanding

The story of Shri Varanasi Parshwanath teaches:

    • Compassion toward even the smallest living beings
    • Forgiveness toward those who harm us
    • Steadiness in meditation and spiritual practice
    • Victory over anger, ego, attachment, and hatred
    • The power of punya and devotion

    Takeaway

Shri Varanasi Parshwanath’s story reminds us that true strength is not in reacting with anger, but in remaining peaceful, compassionate, and forgiving, even during difficulty.
