    Ekashna water drinking timing

    an hour ago 2

    Answer

In Jain practice, during Ekashna, water is generally taken only during the permitted eating period, along with or around the single meal.

After completing Ekashna and doing pachchakkhan / resolving the limitation, one should not drink water outside the allowed time if the vow taken includes restriction of water.

    Explanation

Ekashna means eating only once in a day. The exact rule for water can vary depending on:

    • the tradition followed,
    • the specific pachchakkhan taken,
    • whether it is chauvihar, tivihar, or another form of restriction.

    Commonly:

    • Chauvihar: no food or water after the vow time.
    • Tivihar: food is restricted, but boiled water may be allowed until the permitted time, depending on the vow.
    • Ekashna: one meal is taken once, and water is taken according to the pachchakkhan rules.

    Spiritual Understanding

The purpose of Ekashna is not only to reduce food intake, but also to develop:

    • self-control,
    • discipline over taste and desire,
    • awareness of the soul,
    • restraint in daily life.

    Takeaway

For Ekashna, drink water only according to the pachchakkhan you have taken. If unsure, ask your Guru Maharaj Saheb / Sadhviji or the person guiding your tapasya, because water rules depend on the exact vow.
