Will the existence of current chovisi end by the end of sixth aara of avasarpini?

    an hour ago 1

    Answer

Yes. According to Jain tradition, the current Chovisi—the group of the 24 Tirthankars of the present Avasarpini cycle—belongs to the 3rd and 4th aara of this Avasarpini.

By the end of the 6th aara, the current Avasarpini will also come to an end, and then the next half-cycle, Utsarpini, will begin.

    Explanation

In Jain cosmology, time moves in endless cycles:

    • Avasarpini – descending half-cycle
    • Utsarpini – ascending half-cycle

    Each half-cycle has six aaras.

    In the present Avasarpini:

    • The 24 Tirthankars of the current Chovisi appeared in the earlier part of this Avasarpini.
    • Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar, attained nirvana near the beginning of the 5th aara.
    • We are currently in the 5th aara, called Dusham.
    • After the 5th aara, the 6th aara, called Dusham-Dusham, will come.
    • At the end of the 6th aara, this Avasarpini half-cycle ends.

So the time-period of the current Chovisi is completed within this Avasarpini, and after the 6th aara ends, a new Utsarpini cycle begins, in which a future Chovisi will arise in due course according to Jain cosmology.

    Spiritual Understanding

The current Chovisi does not “end” in the sense that the Tirthankars cease to exist spiritually. The Tirthankars have attained moksha, so they remain eternally liberated Siddhas.

    What ends is:

    • the worldly time-cycle in which this Chovisi appeared,
    • the availability of their direct physical presence,
    • and eventually the continuation of their teachings in the world as the age declines.

    Takeaway

The current Chovisi belongs to the present Avasarpini, and by the end of the 6th aara, this Avasarpini ends. But the liberated state of the 24 Tirthankars is eternal; only the worldly time-cycle changes.
