When will this chovisi end ?
Answer
In Jain Dharma, the current Chovisi means the set of 24 Tirthankars of the present time-cycle.
This Chovisi ended spiritually with the nirvana of the 24th Tirthankar, Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, because He is the last Tirthankar of the present Chovisi.
However, the current avasarpini kaal continues, and no new Tirthankar will appear in this descending half-cycle.
Explanation
According to Jain tradition:
- The present Chovisi began with Bhagwan Rishabhdev / Adinath.
- It ended with Bhagwan Mahavir Swami, the 24th Tirthankar.
- After Bhagwan Mahavir’s nirvana, the era of Tirthankars in this Chovisi is complete.
- The next Chovisi will occur in a future time-cycle, not in the present one.
Spiritual Understanding
Although the Chovisi of Tirthankars is complete, the Dharma taught by Bhagwan Mahavir remains available through scriptures, sadhu-sadhvi bhagwants, and right practice.
So spiritually, our focus should be to follow the path shown by the Tirthankars:
- Samyak Darshan
- Samyak Gnan
- Samyak Charitra
- Ahimsa, Satya, Aparigraha, and Tapasya
Takeaway
The present Chovisi has already ended with Bhagwan Mahavir Swami. The next Chovisi will come only in a future time-cycle according to Jain cosmology.
