Indra that celebrated birth of each tirthankars were different

    2 hrs ago 8

    Answer

Yes. In Jain tradition, the Indra who celebrates the birth of each Tirthankar is not necessarily the same individual Indra.

For every Tirthankar’s birth, the heavenly beings, led by Indra, perform the sacred birth celebration known as Janma Kalyanak. The Indra who performs the ceremony is generally understood as the Indra of the heavens at that time, especially Śakra/Saudharmendra in many traditional accounts.

    Explanation

In Jain Dharma, Indra is not one eternal god. “Indra” is a position or title of a powerful celestial ruler, similar to a kingly office among devas.

    So:

    • There are many heavens and many Indras.
    • Indras are celestial beings with long but finite lifespans.
    • When a Tirthankar is born, Indra comes to celebrate and perform the divine abhishek.
    • Because Tirthankars are born in different time periods, the Indra present at each birth may be different.

In many Jain narratives, Śakra Indra takes the newborn Tirthankar to Mount Meru and performs the ceremonial bath called Janmābhiṣek.

    Spiritual Understanding

The deeper meaning is that even the greatest heavenly rulers bow before a Tirthankar. This shows that in Jain Dharma, spiritual purity and omniscience are higher than celestial power or worldly status.

    Takeaway

Yes, the Indra celebrating each Tirthankar’s birth can be different, because Indra is a celestial post, not one permanent being. The celebration shows the supreme spiritual greatness of the Tirthankar.
