Jain sexual way
In Jainism, sexual conduct is approached with the principles of ahimsa (non-violence), self-restraint, and spiritual discipline.
For householders (Shravakas and Shravikas):
- Sexual relations are permitted only within marriage and are seen as part of household life.
- Even within marriage, moderation and self-control are encouraged.
- Indulgence in excessive sexual activity, adultery, or sexual misconduct is considered a violation of Jain ethical codes.
For monks and nuns (Sadhus and Sadhvis):
- Complete celibacy (Brahmacharya) is mandatory.
- They take vows to abstain from all sexual activity, thoughts, and desires, as it is seen as a key step toward spiritual liberation.
General principles:
- Jain texts warn against sexual thoughts, speech, and actions that cause attachment, passion, or harm to oneself or others.
- Practicing self-control over sexual desires is considered essential for reducing karma and progressing on the path to liberation (moksha).
In summary, Jainism teaches that sexual conduct should be guided by self-restraint, ethical behavior, and non-violence, with complete celibacy for ascetics and disciplined conduct for laypeople.
