    Navkar mantra explanation

    3 hrs ago 5

    Answer

The Navkar Mantra, also called the Namokar Mantra, is the most sacred and universal mantra in Jain Dharma. It is a prayer of reverence to the highest spiritual beings, not a prayer asking for worldly favors.

It bows to five supreme categories of spiritually advanced souls, known as the Pancha Parmesthi.

    Navkar Mantra

    Explanation

    • णमो अरिहंताणं — I bow to the Arihants, the enlightened beings who have destroyed inner enemies like anger, ego, deceit, and greed.
    • णमो सिद्धाणं — I bow to the Siddhas, liberated souls who have attained moksha and are free from all karma.
    • णमो आयरियाणं — I bow to the Acharyas, the spiritual leaders who guide the Jain Sangh and preserve the path of Dharma.
    • णमो उवज्झायाणं — I bow to the Upadhyayas, the spiritual teachers who study and teach Jain scriptures.
    • णमो लोए सव्व साहूणं — I bow to all Sadhus and Sadhvis in the world who live the path of self-discipline, renunciation, and spiritual purification.

    The last four lines mean:

    • This fivefold bow destroys all sins.
    • Among all auspicious things, this is the foremost auspicious one.

    Spiritual Understanding

The Navkar Mantra does not mention any particular person, Tirthankar, sect, or place. It honors spiritual qualities such as:

    • Right faith
    • Right knowledge
    • Right conduct
    • Self-control
    • Liberation from karma

By reciting it with devotion and awareness, a person remembers the highest goal of the soul: freedom from attachment, karma, and worldly bondage.

    Takeaway

The Navkar Mantra teaches humility, purity, and reverence for spiritual excellence. It reminds us that the true purpose of life is to purify the soul and move toward moksha.
