    Alochana stutra Full English translation

    2 hrs ago 4

    Answer

    The Ālochanā Sutra is a Jain repentance prayer in which a devotee humbly confesses faults, asks forgiveness, and resolves to avoid wrongdoing in the future.

    I can provide the English meaning, but I should not claim a “full word-by-word translation” unless the exact version of the Ālochanā Sutra you follow is provided, because different Jain traditions and prayer books may have variations.

    English Translation / Meaning

    O revered Bhagwan, O revered Guru, I confess and repent for all the faults and mistakes committed by me.

    Whatever sinful actions I have done through:

    • mind,
    • speech,
    • body,

    whether done by myself, caused to be done by others, or approved when done by others;

    whether knowingly or unknowingly;

    whether in anger, pride, deceit, greed, attachment, aversion, carelessness, or delusion;

    I sincerely confess all such faults.

    If I have hurt any living being, if I have spoken harshly or falsely, if I have acted with violence, dishonesty, possessiveness, or lack of restraint, if I have disrespected Arihant, Siddha, Acharya, Upadhyay, Sadhu, scriptures, religion, or spiritual discipline, I repent for all such wrongs.

    I condemn those faults from the depth of my heart. I withdraw my attachment toward them. I ask forgiveness for them. May those karmas become lighter and may my soul move toward purity.

    With a humble heart, I take refuge in right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct. May I become more careful, more restrained, more compassionate, and more aware.

    I resolve that I will try not to repeat such faults again.

    Explanation

    Ālochanā means sincere confession or self-review. In Jain Dharma, it is not merely saying “sorry.” It means:

    • recognizing one’s mistakes,
    • accepting responsibility,
    • feeling genuine regret,
    • asking forgiveness,
    • making a firm decision to improve.

    It is closely connected with Pratikraman, Pratyakhyan, and inner purification.

    Spiritual Understanding

    In Jain Dharma, the soul becomes bound by karma due to passions such as anger, ego, deceit, and greed. Ālochanā helps the soul become lighter by developing humility and awareness.

    The true purpose is not fear or guilt, but purification of the soul.

    Takeaway

    Ālochanā Sutra teaches: “May I honestly see my faults, repent sincerely, ask forgiveness, and walk toward a purer life.”

    If you share the exact Prakrit/Hindi/Gujarati text of the Ālochanā Sutra you mean, I can translate that version line by line into English.
