    How to do abhishek?

    2 hrs ago 5

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, Abhishek means respectfully bathing the idol of a Tirthankar with pure water and other auspicious substances, while maintaining devotion, purity, and humility.

It is usually done in a temple under the guidance of temple rules, a pujari, or knowledgeable Jain shravak/shravika.

    Basic Method of Abhishek

    • Prepare yourself: Bathe, wear clean clothes, and keep your mind calm and respectful.
    • Maintain purity: Avoid leather items, food, unnecessary talking, and careless behavior in the temple.
    • Do Namaskar: Bow respectfully to Arihant Bhagwan and recite the Navkar Mantra.
    • Use clean water: Take pure water in a clean kalash or vessel.
    • Perform Abhishek: Gently pour water over the idol with devotion. Do not rush or splash carelessly.
    • Use auspicious items if practiced: In many traditions, items like milk, saffron water, sandalwood water, or panchamrut may be used according to temple custom.
    • Wipe respectfully: After Abhishek, the idol is gently dried with a clean cloth, following temple practice.
    • Do Puja or Darshan: After Abhishek, one may perform puja, offer bhav, and pray for purity of the soul.

    Important Points

    • Follow the specific tradition and rules of your temple.
    • Do not treat Abhishek as a mechanical ritual; it should be done with inner devotion.
    • The purpose is not to cleanse Bhagwan, who is already pure, but to awaken purity within ourselves.
    • If you are unsure, ask a knowledgeable person in the temple before performing it.

    Spiritual Understanding

Abhishek reminds us that just as we bathe the idol externally, we should cleanse our soul internally from anger, ego, deceit, greed, attachment, and aversion.

    Takeaway

Do Abhishek with clean body, clean materials, humble speech, peaceful mind, and pure bhav. The outer ritual becomes meaningful only when it inspires inner purification.
