Sawantsari pratikaman can be done by a sinner too... They will first something which they are not supposed to do and then thru will do this pratikaman

    Answer

Yes, Samvatsari Pratikraman can and should be done even by a person who has committed sins or mistakes.

In Jain Dharma, Pratikraman is not only for “perfect” people. It is especially meaningful for those who recognize that they have done wrong and sincerely want to purify their thoughts, words, and actions.

    Explanation

    Pratikraman means:

    • Looking back at one’s mistakes
    • Accepting them honestly
    • Feeling repentance
    • Asking for forgiveness
    • Taking resolve not to repeat them

So if someone first commits wrong actions and then performs Pratikraman only as a formality, without guilt, without repentance, and with the intention to repeat the same wrong actions again, then that is not true Pratikraman.

But if a person has committed wrong actions and then genuinely feels remorse and wants to improve, then Pratikraman becomes a powerful spiritual practice.

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jain Dharma, no worldly soul is completely free from faults. Anger, ego, deceit, greed, carelessness, harsh speech, violence, attachment, and dislike may arise in daily life.

    That is why Pratikraman exists.

It is a path of self-correction. It teaches us:

    • “I made a mistake.”
    • “I take responsibility.”
    • “I ask forgiveness.”
    • “I will try to become better.”

Samvatsari Pratikraman is especially important because it is the annual deep purification of the soul, where one seeks forgiveness from all living beings through the spirit of:

Michchhami Dukkadam — may my faults become fruitless.

    Takeaway

A sinner is not disqualified from Pratikraman. Rather, sincere Pratikraman is meant to help the soul move away from sin.

But it must be done with true repentance, humility, and a genuine effort not to repeat the same wrong actions.
