What is the procedure for chaath aatam tap

    3 hrs ago 3

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, Chhath Attham Tap generally means doing a tapasya of:

    • Chhath – fasting for 2 continuous days
    • Attham – fasting for 3 continuous days

The exact procedure should be done according to your Guru Maharaj / Sadhviji Maharaj or your family tradition, because practices may slightly differ by Jain tradition and individual health capacity.

    General Procedure

    • Take Pachchakhān: Before beginning the tap, take a proper vow of fasting from Guru Bhagwant or in the accepted traditional way.
    • Observe Upvas: Do not take food during the fasting period. Water rules may differ:
      • Some do Chovihar Upvas – no food or water after sunset.
      • Some may do fasting with boiled water during permitted time, according to Pachchakhān.
    • Follow Samayik / Pratikraman: Spend the days in dharma activities like Samayik, Pratikraman, Swadhyay, Navkar Mantra, and devotion.
    • Maintain Purity of Mind: Avoid anger, pride, deceit, greed, gossip, and unnecessary worldly activities.
    • Do Pārnā: After completing the tap, break the fast at the proper time with correct Pārnā vidhi, usually with simple and suitable food or water as per tradition.

    Important Points

    • Do not begin Chhath or Attham only out of excitement or social pressure.
    • Health, age, strength, and medical condition must be considered.
    • If you are new to fasting, first consult your Guru Bhagwant and experienced family members.
    • The spiritual value of tap comes from bhāv, discipline, humility, and inner purification.

    Spiritual Understanding

Chhath Attham Tap is not only about avoiding food. Its true purpose is to reduce attachment to the body, control desires, practice equanimity, and purify karma through self-discipline and devotion.

    Takeaway

Chhath Attham Tap should be done with proper Pachchakhān, discipline, dharmic activities, and guidance from Guru Bhagwant. The most important part is pure intention, not merely the number of fasting days.
