Whilst in samayik there should be no electrical light. Also you cannot speak any sutras in microphone. Why

    Answer

In Jain Dharma, the main reason is ahimsa, awareness, and purity of conduct during sāmāyik.

During sāmāyik, one tries to reduce worldly activity, avoid unnecessary harm, and remain in a state of equanimity. Therefore, many traditional teachers advise avoiding:

    • Electrical light, especially if its use may attract or harm small living beings.
    • Microphones or loudspeakers, because they increase dependence on worldly instruments and may disturb the quiet, restrained nature of sāmāyik.

    Explanation

Sāmāyik is a practice of becoming steady in the soul’s nature by limiting activity of body, speech, and mind.

In Jain practice, unnecessary use of modern devices during religious observance is often avoided because:

    • Electrical lights may attract tiny insects, and their heat or surrounding activity may cause harm to them.
    • Switching on, using, and managing electrical devices involves extra worldly activity.
    • A microphone amplifies speech and turns a personal, restrained spiritual practice into a more external activity.
    • Sāmāyik emphasizes soft, controlled, mindful speech — not public projection or performance.

So the concern is not only the object itself, but the bhāv — the inner attitude. Sāmāyik should be simple, quiet, careful, and non-violent.

    Spiritual Understanding

In Jain Dharma, even small negligence can create himsā. Sāmāyik trains us to be extremely careful:

    • Speak only what is necessary and spiritually useful.
    • Avoid unnecessary movement and activity.
    • Reduce attachment to comfort and convenience.
    • Maintain inner stillness and awareness.

Using no electrical light and no microphone helps create an atmosphere of restraint, simplicity, and reverence.

    Takeaway

The purpose is not merely “no electricity” or “no microphone.” The deeper purpose is:

to perform sāmāyik with maximum ahimsa, minimum worldly activity, controlled speech, and pure inner awareness.
