    Answer

Yes, you can do Sāmāyik if you do not have time for full Pratikraman. Doing Sāmāyik sincerely is much better than doing nothing.

But to stop masturbation, you should combine:

    • Sāmāyik for calming the mind
    • Pratikraman or short repentance for inner correction
    • Pratyākhyān — a clear vow for a fixed time
    • Practical control over phone, thoughts, food, and loneliness

    What You Can Do Daily

If you do not have time for full Pratikraman, do this:

    • Do one Sāmāyik daily if possible.
    • After Sāmāyik, sincerely say in your heart:
“I repent for wrong thoughts and actions. I will try to remain pure in body, speech, and mind.”
    • Take a small vow:
“For the next 24 hours, I will not watch, think, or do anything that increases sexual desire.”

This short repentance and vow can be done even if you cannot do full Pratikraman.

    Jain Understanding

In Jain Dharma, controlling sexual desire is part of Brahmacharya. For householders, Brahmacharya means gradually reducing lust, avoiding wrong sexual thoughts, and living with self-control.

    Masturbation mainly grows through:

    • Repeated thoughts
    • Seeing triggering content
    • Loneliness
    • Idle time
    • Weak resolve at night or when alone

So only rituals are not enough. You also need to change the conditions that create the habit.

    Practical Steps

    • Do not stay alone with phone at night.
    • Remove adult content completely.
    • Sleep early. Late night increases weakness of mind.
    • Keep your door open when using phone or laptop if possible.
    • When urge comes, immediately stand up and change place.
    • Do Navkar Mantra slowly 9 or 27 times.
    • Drink water, wash face, or take a short walk.
    • Avoid very spicy, heavy, and stimulating food at night.

    If You Fail Again

Do not think, “Now everything is ruined.” That thought makes the habit stronger.

    Instead:

    • Accept the mistake.
    • Do short repentance.
    • Take a new vow for the next few hours or next day.
    • Continue Sāmāyik.

In Jain Dharma, falling is not the end. Not trying again is the real problem.

    Simple Daily Plan

    • Morning: Navkar Mantra and small vow for purity.
    • Evening: Sāmāyik if possible.
    • Night: No phone in bed, sleep early.
    • If mistake happens: Short repentance and restart.

    Takeaway

If you cannot do full Pratikraman, do Sāmāyik sincerely and add a small daily pratyākhyān. The main thing is not guilt, but steady self-control, repentance, and repeated effort.

Slowly, with right awareness, discipline, and devotion, this habit can become weaker.
