Spiritual Life During the 4th Aaraa

During the 4th Aaraa, people still had the ability to practice intense spiritual discipline. Many souls attained:

• Diksha – renunciation
• Tapasya – austerity
• Keval Jnan – omniscience
• Moksha – liberation from birth and death

This period was spiritually powerful because the presence of Tirthankars gave direct guidance to the world.

The fourfold Jain Sangh was established:

• Sadhvi
• Shravak
• Shravika

This Sangh helped preserve dharma and guide souls toward liberation.

End of the 4th Aaraa

According to Jain tradition, the 4th Aaraa ended after the nirvana of Bhagwan Mahavir.

After that, the 5th Aaraa, called Duḥṣamā Aaraa, began. We are currently living in the 5th Aaraa.

In the 5th Aaraa:

• No new Tirthankar appears in Bharat Kshetra.
• Liberation is not possible from Bharat Kshetra during this age according to traditional Jain belief.
• Spiritual practice is still very important because it purifies the soul and prepares it for future progress.
